Program


An established sequence of instructions that tells a computer what to do. You can buy software that is written to follow a sequence of instructions to perform a particular task. Therefore a program is the same as software. In the old days you had to type commands to control the computer. Now we have software programs.


Prompt


Also known as the cursor. A symbol on your screen that indicates where to type next.


Protocol


A protocol is a standard or set of rules that computers and other devices use when communicating with one another.
